Zero Waste Yukon and TIA promote Zero Waste award
Whitehorse – Zero Waste Yukon announced today that the Tourism Industry Association will be the first association in Yukon to help recognize people, organizations or events that are working towards Zero Waste. Nominees for TIA’s Sustainable Leadership in Tourism Award will have an added opportunity to be recognized for their efforts on reducing their waste and their impact on the environment with a Zero Waste award.
“We see this as a great opportunity to promote Zero Waste and recognize our members that are diverting their waste and making decisions that move them towards zero,” says TIA Membership & Community Relations Officer, Amy O’Rourke. “We’re really looking forward to providing this added recognition on April 26th at our Spring Conference gala dinner.”
The Yukon Tourism Awards of Excellence, sponsored by Outside the Cube, were established to recognize and foster excellence in the Yukon Tourism Industry. The awards allow the industry to recognize those people, places, organizations and events that have gone above and beyond to offer superior tourism experiences to travelers in the Yukon. The awards are presented annually at the TIA Yukon Spring Conference gala dinner.
The deadline for the awards has been extended to Friday, April 11th at 5 pm. Organizations, people or businesses may be self-nominated or nominated by another party. Nomination packages are available on the TIA website: www.tiayukon.com. Everyone nominated for the Sustainable Leadership in Tourism award will be considered for the Zero Waste award.
Zero Waste is a philosophy that challenges us to maximize the life of any product by reusing, recycling, reselling, refurbishing AND composting while minimizing the amount of waste we generate in the first place. For more information: www.zerowasteyukon.wpengine.com
