Zero Waste Bins arrive
Whitehorse – Raven Recycling, P&M Recycling, PNW Waste Removal and General Waste Management are excited to see the first shipment of new cardboard bins arrive this week.
“We are thankful for the support from Yukon Government’s Community Development Fund that has allowed the waste haulers and the recycling processors to work together on this project,” says Joy Snyder, Executive Director of Raven Recycling. “These eye catching bins are a real representation of progress towards Zero Waste in the community.”
The Community Development Fund provided close to $120,000 towards the purchase of 74 6-yard cardboard recycling bins to be distributed by the waste haulers in Whitehorse. This investment will help the City of Whitehorse reach their goal of 50% diversion by 2015. The bins will be maintained by the haulers but are owned by the community. The cost to cardboard customers of using these bins will be the same as all other cardboard customers.
“Thank goodness the bins have begun to arrive – we have lots of customers who are waiting for delivery,” says Bill Dallas of General Waste Management. “With the cardboard ban now in place at the City of Whitehorse Waste Management Facility, we are pleased to offer these bins to our customers. We know the demand will only grow.”
Bins are available through PNW Waste Removal and General Waste Management. Cardboard will be delivered to P&M Recycling or Raven Recycling to be baled and shipped south depending on the waste hauler in question. Zero Waste bins are bright green with a Zero Waste logo figured prominently.
