Solid Waste Action Plan (SWAP)

December 12th, 2013 by Sarah

The City of Whitehorse has joined 12 other organizations and governments to kick off a three year education program to support the City’s Solid Waste Action Plan (SWAP).  With a goal of Zero Waste by 2040, the SWAP sets an initial target of 50% reduction in the amount we landfill by 2015.
This is an ambitious target that we are going to achieve with a focus on:
  • Getting the big stuff out of the landfill first
  • Growing the partnerships to grow the services
  • Informing, educating and motivating for real change
The foundation of the Zero Waste education campaign includes Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Compost and Rethink!
To tackle and highlight the importance of Reusing resources and products, the City of Whitehorse is pleased to be working with Northstar Mini-Storage to host a community wide indoor garage sale on February 15th at the Canada Games Centre from 10 am to 4 pm. It is an opportunity for everyone to do an early spring clean or shop for a lightly used item rather than buying new.  For more information contact: info@zerowasteyukon.ca
