A big congratulations to everyone involved in the Lake Laberge Lion’s Club Tradeshow and their working towards Zero Waste Initiative this weekend.

Throughout the entire weekend, we diverted approximately 4 of every 5 bags of garbage generated to be either recycled or composted.

The Kiwanis club also generated less than a single bag of garbage to be sent to landfill while running their food concession thanks to implementing zero waste principles throughout the whole weekend.

The resource rescue team, made up of scouts, guides, cadets, and a few more wonderful individuals made a real splash at the show, with their cheerful advice and courteous assistance to attendees and exhibitors alike.   Not to mention, their enthusiastic cheers for folks who were diverting waste properly or, even better, had brought along their own reusable mug/water bottle!
Here’s a breakdown of the numbers…
By working together, we managed to divert:
49 large bags of plastics for recycling
24 large bags of compost
1 full bin of mixed paper
3.5 large trolley-bins of cardboard
In contrast, only 19 bags of garbage were sent to the landfill this year!
