Zero Waste Yukon announces plans for 2nd Annual Indoor Community Garage Sale

Whitehorse – Zero Waste Yukon, a collaborative initiative led by Raven Recycling, is pleased to be hosting our second annual Indoor Community Garage Sale. To be held on February 14th at the Canada Games Centre, this event is possible through the support of the City of Whitehorse and North Star Mini-Storage.

“We are pleased with our plans for this year,” says Danny Lewis, Education coordinator with Raven Recycling. “We have room for 49 vendors and expect this event will help residents re-use perfectly good products instead of buying new.” Adds Lewis: “it’s an excellent opportunity to not only divert items from the landfill, but also a chance to educate the public on the importance of reducing our consumption of new materials. We also expect to see people selling items made of recycled materials.”

“We had a lot of fun last year and North Star Mini-Storage is happy to help organize,” says Lara Rae Grant. “We know people want a chance to buy and sell used, refurbished goods so this event accomplishes that. It’s also a chance for teams and organizations to raise some money for their activities.”

The Indoor Community garage sale will be held in the Flexihall from 10 to 2 pm on Saturday, February 14th. People are encouraged to bring their own bags and a few extras to share with others at the door! Booths are $50 each & include take away service provided by Raven Recycling. Sign up for booths starts today – first come served.

Zero Waste Yukon is a collaboration led by Raven Recycling and supported by a variety of partners and stakeholders including:  YG Community Services, YG Education, City of Whitehorse, Yukon College, Association of Yukon Communities, Council of Yukon First Nations, P&M Recycling, Raven Recycling, Whitehorse Chamber of Commerce, Yukon Chamber of Commerce, Yukon Conservation Society, Tourism Industry Association, Yukon Blue Bins, Yukon Teacher’s Association, Main Street Business Association, the Fireweed Community Market Society and North Star Mini-Storage.
